Finally Human Thoughts on being a person

A meal out

The room is dark and the smell of spices hangs in the air. The waiter comes and takes our orders. Tonight we're eating curry at a charming local place.

Conversation starts.

Mindless trivia

Pathetic tales of nonsense

Two people who work full time, own a nice house outside of London drive nice cars and have nice lives.

Yet over the dinner table, conversation is strained and awkward. There is nothing to discuss.

My heart is troubled.

In a dark place with a smell hanging in the air.

I want to cry.

'God, this can't be my life

Please Lord, save me from this

I don't want to become my parents'

God hears the poor – so where does that leave me?

Today I went into London to meet a friend for lunch.

I was early and so went for a walk around the station. Turns out the area around London Bridge isn't that interesting. I was actually hunting for a good pub to eat at. On my little exploration I passed two homeless gentlemen begging on the streets. Sadly I had no cash on me to give them but made a note to donate to a homeless charity later.

But the homeless leave me with a problem.

In a wonderfully developed country like the one I currently live in, why are there still thousands of people who don't live as most do?

Placement Reflection #3

I made a friend last night.

His name is Kieran and like me he's into computing. He's pretty good too, knows how to fix PC's, how to do all sorts of cool things. I even learned a few new tricks from him. Plays a lot of games too. I was never into it, but he's a hardcore Runescape player.

My testimony (Or how I came to be where I am)

For those who missed it first time:

I was never a popular kid at school. I can distinctly remember always feeling like an outcast, like I didn't belong. As an 11 year old kid, secondary school is a scary place. For a variety of reasons I was never with the 'in' crowd. In fact I think I was the 'out' crowd of my peer group. Needless to say I didn't enjoy school much. Just to get a feel for what school was like for me, I can remember being beaten, naked on the floor of the changing rooms at school.

I did not grow up in any form of church environment and so my knowledge of God is limited.

Held together with duct tape

A friend of mine at cliff has a purple Citroen C3. This C3 is my favourite car at college. It's always filled with life, and grace. You can say anything, and you will be heard. Do anything and everyone will do it with you. And still the car will cause you to arrive on time.

One of the most interesting features of this car is that the bumper is held on with duct tape.

Midday prayer

Come before God now, in the middle of the busy day.

John stopped and noticed, he shouted out:

"Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"

Will you notice the Lamb of God?

Father, in the middle of my activity I acknowledge your purpose. My working and doing exists within your plan.

Help me surrender the work of my hands into your hands

For the glory of your Son

Amen

Placement reflection #2

What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

Luke 11:11-13

Useless, it's all useless. A pointless waste of my evening. The kids don't like me, I can't impact their lives - they need more than I could possibly give them. I'll equipped and under prepared.

Is it ok to be wrong?

Placement reflection #1

Imagine this scene - you might have to cast your mind back a few years. You're walking through a corridor in a modern school building. As you can expect there are colourful displays on the walls, the older ones look a little worse-for-wear, much like some of the kids.

Everyone walks around in twos or threes, chatting away about all manner of things. It's the morning so people still look pretty fresh and ready for the day.

You pass through this corridor, notice the Lino floor, grey walls and lockers on your left.

A knot tightens in your stomach

There is a lump in your throat

Because unlike many of the other kids, you are walking alone.

Your ill-fitting school uniform seems out of place in its neatness.

You are walking alone, you always walk alone.

The rush of panic passes as you enter your classroom. Seated, the dread comes like a darkened cloud.

The teacher at the front calls for attention:

'Good morning'

Word // 4

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.(John bore witness about him, and cried out, This was he of whom I said, He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.)And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.
John 1:14-18

Hail his coming!Don't be shocked,When you bump shoulders with the one who is stepping into the world

Oh hail him
Truth, Grace, fresh water in the dry place
Celebrate! We can be children of God

God can be known
Stretching through eternity, bursting into this darkness
Doing life with us

Oh what a great God
The beyond, before, bigger
Calls us home

Amen

Word // 3

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:9-13

The Word is the LightSince before all thingsHe has been the expression of God, in creating, in speaking, in shining.
And now is he time, into our reality does this light shine. Before he was a light from far offWhich humanity looked away from
But now the light is coming towards this placeThe work-a-day world will get lit upThe night-time economy will burn brightly
He who gave people their human-nessIs despised and forgottenYet there are a handful
These children of GodWho saw the light and said yesAre born once more, and bask in the glow of the glorious light
Glorious light who comes and changesI receive you this day, I hear the word, I see the lightAnd I am born of God as your child
Amen
